Range rpt: G21 10mm w/20, 22lb springs

Thinking my G21 10mm conversion would wear hard on the frame, I tried Wolff 20 and 22lb recoil springs. Shooting BVAC 180gr 10mm FMJ and JHP in various combinations in the magazine (to verify feeding), I had consistent ejection failures. I have shot the same ammo with the stock 17lb G21 spring with no failures.

I'll be going back to the stock 17lb spring in my G21 for both 45 and 10mm.

BVAC is watered down 10mm. As long as you are shooting that stuff and not real 10mm, then I would agree with you that you should stick with a stock spring weight.

Are you using a 10mm conversion barrel or just the G20 barrel? If you are using the conversion, I was wondering if you knew of any companies that were still producing them.

I believe Storm Lake is still producing a true "conversion" from 21 to 20. A straight up G20 barrel will work in a G21 though.

BVAC publishes a velocity of 1100 fps. Everything that I've seen clocks it at more like 1000 fps.

Underwood Ammo is the real deal. Of course they're out of stock like everyone else right now though. The only other way to get the most out of 10mm is to make your own.

If you just dropped a G20 barrel in there, wouldn't it kind of rattle around?

The hole, where the end of the barrel extends through the slide would be too large for the G20 barrel, right?

I thought the G21 45acp barrel was bigger in diameter than the G20.

I believe they have the same outside diameter, the only difference is that the g20 barrel has a SLIGHTLY smaller hood. I've heard people say they have used a g20 barrel before, I just wanted a little more info from people who have first hand experience before I order one up.

I'm using a G20 barrel in my G21. Fits, feeds, and shoots just fine. G20 and G21 barrels have identical external diameter. No rattle or any other issues. I accidentally bought the G20 long barrel, but had my smith cut, port, and test it. He commented that he was surprised how accurate it was. Don't know what ammo he was using.

Being new to 10mm I didn't realize BVAC was weak, so maybe my 20lb spring will serve better when I get some other brands to try. I'm not committed enough yet to reload :)

Still, I get good comments and conversations every time I shoot 10mm.
