Questions on pre-ban mags

So I've been looking at ar-15's and sadly live in NY at the moment with all of our wonderful gun laws that keep the public safe...

I had a few questions on pre ban mags.

First off where can I find them for the ar-15 family?

Second (and this one may be a dumb question as I know nothing about the construction of these magazines) if I find a pre ban 30 rounder but the springs or follower or something like that aren't in great shape is it possible/legal to disassemble the magazine and replace those parts?

you can find ar 15/ m16 mags all over the net. check sportsmans guide or valhalla armory, cheap mags for cheap price. or seach magpuls site if you want a better quality mag that will last forever. as for rebuilding the mags, yes you can find tons of sites selling parts and plenty of info on how to go about touching up the older "memory" sensitive mags :)

Ok thanks a lot guys. I figured finding them would be easier if I just asked for some direction. But with all the crazy anti gun laws we have here I wouldn't have been surprised if there was a "replacing any parts makes them illegal" aspect to the laws. Good to know the law essentially only applies to the body of the magazine.

For "pre ban" mags, you will need to find ones that are LE marked, right? If so, your search may be a bit harder as most of those were sold off after the ban sunsetted.

If I am wrong, please let me know.

Living in NY, i've found that alot of online places won't ship mags over 10 rounds to NY whether they are preban or not. I just bought 2 30 round preban mags at my local gun shop this past weekend. They were a little more expensive than the online prices, but i was able to get them without a hassle. If you tell me where you are in NY, maybe I can point you in the right direction.
