Question on size; it does matter.

Who can tell me please the relative size of the Colt Agent, the Colt Cobra
and the Colt Detective. I'm looking for a Colt the size of a Smith 60 snubby.
I think the Cobra is a bit bigger than the 60?
Can someone shed some light on this? TIA.

I carried a smith 36 for years.
Then carried a few semi's.
Picked up a Detectve special, bought a cobra, hides as well as
the 36,fits my hand better and has one more rnd.
I think it is important to directly compare to make the best choice for
yourself.
All fine revolvers.

snub

Hi Gaucho1:

Valid points. I will be checking it out soon and will see how it fits my hand.
Have a few snub Smiths so it'll be easy to compare. Thanks.

And the Colts have that all important shot... the sixth one.
Really was part of their advertising back when they were a serious player in the market.

I think the the S&W is great in the role of a back-up (and my tastes lean toward the Bodyguard--the thinking man's Centennial), but if it is your primary/only weapon, the Colt is a better choice.

Something some folks don't realize is that the Colt Detective Special is built on the "D" frame, the same as the Colt Police Positive Special.

Want a Detective Special with a longer barrel? Look at the Police Positive Special (here's my Fourth Issue model) with a set of DS grips for fun.

Its all personal preference....I think.....

For my hand,I find the first issue style grips feel the best.
When I was first seeing cobras and DS colts, they were all the shrouded
type with chunky short grips, the chiefs seemed much more compact.

The D frame is compact, but shrouds, bull barrels and grips can negate
the lean feel.
I also have a first issue D with a 5"pencil.Very lean and old fashion.
