Question on 1911 Series 80 safety

Before I even ask, I KNOW the general opinion on removing the series 80 firing pin safety parts. But this is NOT a carry gun and will never be one. It is a take to the range target gun only.

There are four components, two in the frame and two in the slide. My question is this. I know if you remove the safety lever on the sear pin you have to put a shim there to take up the space where the frame is milled out. Brownells sells the shim. But can't you just leave the lever there, taking up the space and acting as a shim, and remove the upper plunger lever on the hammer pin as well as slide components? Isn't this the same thing as replacing with the shim?

Thanks-
