Question about the Sig P220 22lr conversion kits

I understand that the conversion kit does not lock the slide back on the last round....so my question is does this have some way to protect the chamber and firing pin from damage as you inevitabley will do some inadvertant "dry fire" when using this (i.e. magazine is empty and I lost count of the rounds :)).

Any experience?

I have the P226 conversion and it does not have anything to prevent damage. It also does not lock the slide back. I just try to count rounds and not wind up dry firing it often. I suppose maybe you could put a snapcap in the bottom so it wouldn't cycle on that one and you wouldn't be dry-firing if you're really worried about it. I've never tried that though.

Are you sure that the chamber will be damaged? While this is an issue with many .22s, some .22s and conversion kits have firing pin limiters. The user's manual that comes with the kit may explain if its an issue with a 220 kit.
