Quality control 2014 Marlin

A friend of mine is interested in a Marlin 1895 made in 2014. This would be an online purchase so he can’t evaluate it in person. Does anyone know if Marlin/Remington had their quality control issues fixed by 2014? Thanks.

I very recently purchased a 2015 production Marlin 1895 that is mechanically sound and has proven to be a very good shooter, though I haven't owned a true Marlin to compare it to.
My only complaint was the wood furniture being a poor match in color and overall finish forearm to stock, but the fit was good.
This thread outlines that issue and Marlin's choice on how to remedy it.
I'm a very happy Remlin 1895 owner.

I would not purchase anything from 'Marlin' made in Ilion unless I could personally inspect it thoroughly...

I have two JM Marlins and two REP Marlins, the REP Marlins have better metal work, seem to shoot and cycle better overall and the wood/stock while not bad is an area to improve yet perhaps. Mine are 2016ish manufacture. My JMs are 1973 and 1982.

I would not purchase for top dollar a Marlin of any era without it being vouched for. Marlin, despite the mythology that has sprung up since they sold to Remington, have had long standing quality and function issues including all the currents ones, barrel droop, crooked sights, wrong sights, Marlin Jam etc. Yeah, I guess the wood was mostly better though for them. Even if the sights were crooked.

2013 and 2014 were the first two years of 100% Remington production.
In some ways, fit and finish were better than while they were still using leftover parts. In other ways, it's worse - and function is rarely ideal.

The rifle may be one of the good ones that slipped through, but I would avoid anything made from 2009 to 2014 ... like the plague.

I don't completely discount the Remington Marlins, but I would have to look at it first. From experience, I bought a NIB 1894FG in 2003 sight unseen, it was about what I expected from a modern Marlin... knowing that a Marlin isn't a Browning or Weatherby, with build techniques to match.

Its a roll of the dice a 50/50 deal he may win and he may lose, I lost my 2014 was a piece of junk it was a 1894 model 44mag, I did get my money !!!!

Its been a roll of the dice since 2010 to current date with Marlins Quality Control. Lots of "woe is me!!" Marlin lever owner/customers.
