Protecting polished receiver

I got bored and polished the receiver of a $60 break action I bought the other day.

It's polished to a high sheen now. How can I protect the metal from rust, while keeping the brushed steel look?

I'm thinking a thin layer of Eezox will do the trick.

Hey, you didn't say they had to be good ideas,

actually the paste wax is a fairly good one. Cheap, easy to apply, and touch up.
