The Washington Times reported this morning that only hours after the Colorado shootings, AOL employees gathered every scrap of information about the two supsects' accounts, anticipating an FBI visit that took place not long after.

AOL is headquartered in Loudon County, VA, and so far this year, 70 of the 107 warrants issued in the County were for AOL. The article does not say whether Federal warrants are included in this total.

These are not, be it noted, blanket warrants, or fishing expeditions. Each is issued in response to a particular incident, such as a threat, involving e-mail or a web site.

I am sure no one on this site would act in an irresponsible manner, but users of any internet service should be aware that privacy cannot be assumed, any more than it can in use of a telephone.
