Just looking for ball park numbers. I haven't looked into getting a Class III firearm for a few years and I know prices have gone up.

Approx price ranges for:

AC556 - Standard configuration

MP5-

AK47

M16

Uzi-9mm

AC556 - Standard configuration - about $6k
MP5-about $14-15k
AK47 - $15k+
M16 $10k+
Uzi-9mm $6k-7k.

Since you're in SE PA, I'd really recommend you take a look at www.jbarms.com and www.davidspiwak.com Both guys are local and having dealt with both Howard and David, I'd highly recommend them.

Shaggy's numbers are dead-on. Look around enough and talk to enough people and sometimes you can find a better deal. But those numbers are pretty solid. THIS year. :)

Some of the more rare Colt M16's (M16A2, factory 635's, etc.) can top AK47 prices, but most don't. The reason is simple supply and demand; there were far more M16s and converted AR15's registered back before the May 1986 cutoff than AK47s.

Bingo. Tracking down a REAL AK-47 in its original format (not a semi-auto or parts gun converted) is very hard to find. Then throw in the other multiple effects:
- 1968 ban stopped new ones coming in to the US
- they were Soviet or Comm bloc weapons and as such the chances of obtaining one during height of Cold War was VERY small
- majority were from Vietnam vets as bring backs, and to a lot of collectors 'provenance' adds a premium

M-16's on otherhand were far easier to come by (relatively speaking). There are variants like a M231 port firing version for US APC's that is very rare, and some other variants, but overall its just a simple matter of supply and demand. If you were to remove all the references to AK-47's in movies during the past 30 years, I bet their value would drop just from that alone. People see owning one as a 'cool' factor.

Doesnt hurt that ammo is easy to come by too - MP44 might be pricier if ammo were easier to obtain. But thats just speculation.

Too bad. If I didn't know they were just a FA Mini-14 I'd have tempation to buy one. Nothing like shooting 600 rounds per minute in a shotgun pattern. :D

Do they make any distinction in pricing for registered sear ARs versus registered receiver ARs? I've noticed not much difference for common Uzi variations.

While there are "registered sear" AR's they are pretty rare. What they are is a drop-in auto sear that has been married to a receiver. You can get a registered drop in auto sear (about a quarter sized piece of machined steel or aluminum), for ~ $11,000 and use it in any apprpriate AR lower receiver. The sear is the machine gun.

Does the AC556 take the same stock as the Mini 14?

Unlike an M14, the selector is not cut into the stock area.
