Price check - Ruger MKII Competition

I know a dealer who'll sell me a MKII Competition model new for just under $400. I was considering a S&W 22a competition model, but I've been told they are prone to break and are not very well made. The Smith is going for $299 here, but I don't want to end up with a problem, just to save some $ up front.
Does the price for the MKII sound reasonable, or should I get a 5.5 bull barrel and "customize"?

Four hundred is what they're goin for around here.
If I were buying a MK-II I'd go with the cheaper bull barrel.

You should be able to get that Ruger for about $380 if you shop around.

The 5.5" bull barrel is a great deal--unless you're definitely going to put on a scope. It doesn't come drilled and tapped, whereas the Competition model does. Saves some time and money.
