Polymer Coating

I was wondering why do they polymer coat some ammunition. I"ve only seen it done to ammo with steel casings and was curious as to the benefit of coating it in the polymer. Is it easier feeding and extracting or something?

Yes, it helps for non rusting, but it also helps to give smooth feeding and not sticking to the chamber. Ammo like early Wolf used lacquer coating to protect the steel, but when hot it could stick to the chamber....I had it happen in my mini-14. So they changed to a poly coating to protect and not become sticky.

Poly coating probably would help normal brass ammo, but no one goes to that trouble.

Triton, Black Hills....

The small ammunition firm Trition used to plate some handgun rounds with Robar NP3 nickel-Teflon. ;)
Im not sure if this company is still around but they did it around 1996-2000.
I used some screaming hot Trition 135gr JHPs for my Beretta 96D .40 in the late 90s but they were not NP3 coated.
I also think Black Hills or Starfire had either bullets or entire rounds plated in the early 2000s but I may be mistaken.
