I found out tonight that my Dad's best friend- the guy who took me hunting for the first time- was seriously injured by a Cape Buffalo while hunting in Africa. We have few details so far. Apparently he was charged and gored very badly. The lower half of his body is a mess. A lot of muscle lost in his legs and severe damage to his pelvic area. He was lucky to be hunting with some doctors who managed to keep him alive during the 14 hours it took to get him to a hospital. They had to charter a jet to fly him back to the US today for emergency care.
Obviously hunting Cape Buffalo is dangerous and you put yourself at risk when you do it, but he is a really good guy. He lives to hunt and fish. If he makes it, this will profoundly affect his life.
His name is Noel. Please join me in hoping for a full recovery and for the strength he will need to face the challenges ahead.
