Modified and better stick with #6 or even #5. I do have a buddy that was very comfortable with #7-1/2 but he is heavy into trap and skeet shooting and not your average hunter.

Be Safe !!!

Do you people have to do this.....????

I mean how hard hearted can you be!!!

He me and Louann are unable to go pheasant hunting this season and you keep bringing it up.......just more salt in the wounds!!!!

Now that I've got that off my chest............Modified is what we screw in Louann's 20 when we hunt them.

And as PAHOO said......use 5s.....

That's what the locals in SD always told us to use and the results were good.

Have fun and post pictures.................at least I can look and long......

I shoot 7 1/2's using an IC A5 20ga--never had a problem.
The last pheasant I shot with my 12 A5 7 1/2's IC, ruined
all the meat, just opened her up.

Over Dogs I would go with a Improved Modified if you have it. If not modified with or without dogs. I used #6 shot, pheasants have heavy feathers that make it hard for 7 1/2 penetrate.

Where are you hunting Pheasants in Jersey? Hunting preserve? In PA the pheasant have just about disappeared.

Pic's please if you're successful. Pheasant hunting in PA as a kid are some of my best memories.

For preserve/planted birds, over dogs, 7.5 in the first barrel, 6 in the second, and either a SK/LM or IC/M respectively.

For wild birds flushing far, (35 yards or better), choke up to M/F
and use 6 and 5s.
Fiocchi Golden Pheasant loads work very well

@crghss....There are plenty of pheasants in South East PA. As soon as the game truck shows up and lets them go that is. Pretty tough. I am all for getting kids out hunting and the youth hunts we have in PA. The only problem I have with it is....The stock our birds early so they are there for the youth hunt. By the time season opens many have been killed my fox and such. Plus they are spread out all over the place. By spread out I mean they have left the State Game Lands and move to private property in the area. I see more from my tree stand hunting deer than I do out hunting them.

A buddy of mine just happened to go out one afternoon. When he pulled in and was getting his stuff on the stocking truck pulled in. The guy released how ever many birds and was leaving. He said to the guys there. Hey at least wait until I am out the road before you start shooting. My buddy wanted to hunt not just shoot, but still got his limit in 30 minutes.
