I looked on the nj legislature website and it looks like you need a firearms ID card or a pistol purchase permit to buy or transfer a firearm in personal (FTF) transfers. Can anyone confirm or deny that?
Correct on both counts; proper ID required for FTF, long gun = FID, handgun = FID + valid, current permit. NJ is no place to mess around with the paperwork!
