To any of you that have a Vang comp barrel, how large are you patterns at 25 yards with 00 Buck?

Do you find that the Federal Tactical 00 buck is the best?

It's been a while, but I think mine was 8" - 12" with Federal Tactical 00 at thirty yards. .. Let's see, or was that 30" at 8 yards...

Last part of post withdrawn due to bad sense of humor. First part remains valid for my Vang modified 870.

If I also remember correctly, my Vanged 11-87 Police will put the Fed stuff in 10" just like Erick's.

Coop- Hans lengthens the forcing cone and back-bores the barrel. Now, what this does is keeps the shot tighter and prevents the pellets from hitting into each other which prevents deformity. Because of this, you can shoot out reaches out further. He can also port the barrel which improves felt recoil and muzzle climb.

Now I have had my Mossberg 590A1 done about three years and really love it. I was courious what size pattern others were getting because a friend of mine has a 870 which also has the Vang comp barrel and he is getting eratic patterns from his gun uing Federal Tactical 00 buckshot.

I am wondering if a dirty barrel could cause this or wind? He shot one round at 25 yards and came away with an impressive 7-8" pattern only to go out the next day because his neighbor didn't believe him and shot a 15" pattern. I am not sure if he might have had a bad round or it was the wind, him, dirty barrel or a combination of the three. I am suppose to go out with him today and shoot this gun.

i have 590A1 18.5" that has the VCS done to it. I really like the shot control, approximately 10-12" at 25 yards, but one thing that suprised me was the HUGE ball of flash. I suppose that is a given with a SG, but it still was suprising, after shooting ARs with flash suppressors. The flash was much larger than the Garand and SKS we were shooting, which both had crowned muzzles.

I am now shooting the standard Remington 2 3/4" buck, rather than the tactical. This round appears to work well too. the S&B, with the clear hull, spread a little larger.

Some loads have more flash than other, Erick, irrespective of bbl length. Progressive burning powders keep burning further up the tube, and in shorter bbls this is more obvious.

One Mad Scientist of my acquaintance used a light meter and a chronograph to find the least flash, most velocity ammo for his 1911.Maybe someone can try this with shotgun ammo and post their results.

Erick, i also have the porting job, shooting out of an 18.5" barrel. You don't notice any flash? we were shooting in near darkness, and i could definitely see sprites, for lack of a better word, when i closed my eyes after shooting a few rounds.

I don't have the porting on mine and don't have problems with flash. I think that it is mainly an ammo concerne.
