Does anyone use the Otis rifle cleaning stuff ? What are the pro's and con's ?
Seems the coated cable would be very easy on the barrel and it is threaded to add attachments like brushes and their cleaning patches.

A lot of people like the Otis and apparently some military personnel buy them.

The disadvantage is the same for any pull-through device.
They WILL break off and leave the bore blocked with no way to get it out unless you have a rod.

Most pull-throughs fail when the cord breaks, the Otis fails when the cleaning brush or patch holder itself breaks.
And they DO break sometimes as some users have reported.

As long as you inspect it very carefully and replace any worn, damaged, or suspect parts it should be good to go.

When I went to Afghanistan in 2007. The Army issued me a similar cleaning kit to the Otis stuff. Not sure who made it, but it worked reasonably well...

I generally use thee pull through method when cleaning most of my rifles. I am not sure it really matters. I just don't like dragging anything back across the muzzle.

I’ve used an Otis system as one of my many cleaning options & it’s perfect for taking into the field/hunting trips/etc, very compact. I don’t see any way the coated aircraft steel cable or threaded brass attachments could ever break, they’ve never given me a problem over several years of use. Good quality cleaning kit.

My late brother-in-law gave me a couple of these kits and I just never really cared for them so they are still resident in an ammo box somewhere.

They are compact and that is good and they seemed to work well. But they were clumsy for me. Probably just me....
