I have a S&W 1903 .32 HE, third change in almost perfect shape. I was told by a gun dealer than the box itself is probably worth as much as the firearm. Is this even possible?

Oh yes, very nice !!!

Yes, it's worth something and your dealer may just have it right. The fact that it is a Smith, goes a long way .... ;)

Be Safe !!!

Condition is a bit rough, but yet, it will still have value. Whether or not it will be as valuable as the gun that went in it, I have no clue.

There are people who collect S&W boxes, either on their own merit, or to be paired with guns that they already have.

This is one case where I would definitely say that joining the S&W forum is a good thing as this is a highly specialized area of knowledge.
