i just got this older 1100 rem. 28ga with a 25 inch barrel with a fixed skeet choke from my turkey hunting buddy, he said you have a rem 870 in 28ga you should have a auto loader in 28ga too. i use one oz win #6,s in the 870 with mod choke and it kills rabbits out to 30 yards like chain lighting, how will the 1100 with a skeet choke do on 30 yard rabbits? the gun is in very good used condition and at a very good price.. eastbank.

I owned an 1100 sporting in 28 and found that clay course rabbits were smashed best out to 30-35 yards with an IC or LM choke with 3/4oz of number 8's. Since your rabbits are a tad tougher, I would first pattern your load to see what you get. If it is not acceptable, Briley can install choke tubes, as they did the OEM chokes for my gun

28ga is a very nice gun to shoot and to hunt with ....

but the only way to answer your question is for you to go to a range and pattern the gun with a hunting load of 6's ...and maybe some 4's ( sheet of butcher paper / stapled to sticks ( put a 3" dot in the middle / and shoot it ) -- and compare it to your other gun with a Mod choke - and draw a 30" circle around your point of impact ( and make sure both guns are hitting where you look / if the point of impact is off or different / it'll affect your hunting a lot ...so make some adjustments to the stock as necessary.)

Most all mfg's - build their 28ga and .410 models on their 20ga frames....Over Unders, semi-autos and pump guns ....it doesn't seem to matter.

Personally, I don't find it a big deal ....especially if you have all 3 gagues (20, 28 and .410 ) in the same make and model, transitioning between the 3 guns isn't that big a deal. These days ...I find myself shooting and reloading more 28ga and .410 anyway ...
