Old vs. New Stingers

I bought a partial box of old-style CCI Stingers today and immediately noticed a difference in the bullets as compared to recently purchased rounds. The older bullets have a pentagonal hollowpoint as compared to a round hollowpoint now. The boxes (old=blue, new=clear) are also different, and I guess CCI can't say they are the fastest any more. I would guess the rounds I bought today are at least 20 years old, maybe older. The nickeled cases still appear to be in perfect condition.

Looks like manufacturing tooling has changed.
No matter if they changed for better or worse.
You (I) can't find them for sale anywhere.

You (I) can't find them for sale anywhere.

That's because the scalpers have have them all for sale on Gunbroker, where you can buy whatever ammo you are looking for if you are willing to pay the price.

I always preferred the CCI Mini-Mags. I have about 400 rounds of them left and I'm trying to conserve them. I've only traded for one 500 rd. brick of .22lr since this recent scare. I gave a used 30 rd. Butler Creek 10/22 mag for it. Best trade I ever made ;)

I'm sure glad I had a little over 3,000 rounds before this "crisis"

The only thing I found CCI mini-mags really good for was feeding my Jennings J-22 when it was my carry gun over 23 years ago. The little J-22 worked quite well with these.

My Ruger Mark II doesn't really care what you feed it. And, the only other .22's I shoot are from a bolt action .22 - any old ammo will do.

Found Stingers (3 box limit) this morning at Wal-Mart for $6.47 each, lower than the price shown on the box I had from above. They also had Mini-Mags, I may go back later and see if any are left.

Edit... went back at lunch and scored a 100-round box of Mini-Mags for $7.47. That's about half the going rate from the scalpers on Gunbroker :)

The BI-marts here in OreGun have been all stocked up on mini mags. The other day one of the local stores had about 5000 rounds.

Around here stingers have been all but extinct. I was lucky enough to have about 5000 rounds of stingers when the panic hit. My 8.5" barreled Ruger Single Six Convertible loves them.
