Old BB-gun Shipping Advice

I'm flying to see my Dad in a few days, he's got an old Daisy Red Ryder from the 40's. It's been sitting in the rafters of a basement for years and he says it's in rough shape.

But my Grandfather gave me my first shooting lessons with that Daisy about fifty years ago. So I'd love to have it just as a showpiece. But I have to fly back.

I'm not going to try to navigate flying back with it. Any tips on shipping?

Oh, and unfortunately it does not have a compass in the stock.

Just box it up and ship it UPS or USPS. It's NOT a firearm. Fasten a 1X6 fence board the length of it in the box so it doesn't get bent and broken by loading dock gorillas.

Tape with painter's tape and then packaging tape to stout piece of wood. Put in luggage but inform clerk (even though you don't have to).

Thanks for the help! I've got a Christmas Story leg lamp at home, and this will help me decorate for the holidays. Otherwise I think I'll keep it with his vintage Boy Scout knife.

I got a new Red Ryder at Walmart about 15 years ago, and it lasted for about a week. Pure junk. My Dad's was still putting holes in boxes in the 70's
