OK, Marlin lever guys....

I've heard rumors of Remington using different threads on some of the lever guns, but I have not yet seen a photograph, talked to a person that had one, or seen one in person. Nor can anyone ever give any details about the supposed 60-dgree threaded barrels, what model was involved, or what year it was produced.

I have, or have had, barrels and receivers for the 336 family* produced through 2016, and all were still square-threaded. *(336, 444, 1895)
And, less than a month ago, I bought parts from a guy that had just stripped a brand-new November 2016 barrel-coded 336W that had square threads.

I have three Remington-made barrels installed on older Marlin receivers, right now. (1946, 1970, 2002) They're all square thread barrels, and timed exactly as Marlin did.

I'm starting to file the rumor next to Big Foot and Chupacabra.

Is there a specific model you're referring to?
Or a specific situation prompting the question?

No, it is not a rumor. I was cleaning up a little and found an old 32-40 marlin barrel. It has square threads and I just assumed the hillbillys at Marlin would have gone over to 60* threads years ago. I thought I might keep an eye out for a receiver and parts that are somewhat compatible.

.32-40 was only ever chambered in the 1893 series.
So any 1893, 1936, 36, 336, 30A, 30AS, etc. should be capable of accepting the barrel.
The standard bolt face (.30-30, .219 Zipper, .307 Win, .444 Marlin, etc.) would, of course, make things easier.

*Also compatible:
-The Model 444 with standard, .30-30-style cartridge lifter (no set screw on left, forward face of receiver).
-Glenfield 30, 30A, 35, 36, 36G, etc.
-Western Field, Western Auto, Sears, JC Penney, Firestone, and other 'store brand' models.

I would, too.

Good luck, buddy.

There's a "beater" 1893 .30-30 in my LGS that's seen the softer side of hell, to put it nicely.
Although I really want to pick it up for a .327 Federal conversion, I might be willing to share some details and pass the torch, if it'll get you into your .32-40.
It really just depends upon what your budget is. 1893s are getting expensive ... even for "crap" rifles. ...And this one is priced as a decoration.

Send me a PM if you want a little more detail (and the LGS's asking price).

If the thread fits anything, I would be looking for a newer model. I would not care about the thread so much, but the barrel is pretty short now.
