OAL on 270 win using Speer 130 gr BTSP

I don't have a Speer manual and the Lyman manual and another "Complete Reloading Manual for 270 Win" that I have doesn't list any OAL data for the Speer bullets. Speer is closed until Jan 3 and I would like to load some ammo with the bullets.

I am pretty new to this and the Lyman manual does list different lengths for different bullets. I am being cautious I know, but just don't want to make any disastrous mistakes.

If you are using Speer bullets, you should be using their data.

If you are not using Speer's data, their published OAL does no good for the load you have chosen to use.
-That being said, their listed OAL for that bullet is 3.240". It's worthless information in this context, but what you asked for.

3.34" is the max per SAAMI registration, but there is a little more clearance plus tipping in most magazines.

I leave them all at 3.34" and the deer don't know the difference.

My Speer Reloading Manual # 14 lists the 130 Spitz BTSP Speer Part # 1458 on page 337.

It shows the COAL Tested as 3.240" the same as for their other listed .270 Win 130 gr bullets ( # 1459 Spitz SP and # 1465 GS SP)

That's sorta 'cause there ain't no such specifications for any particular bullets. What gets posted into some manuals is the OAL the makers used to develop their data, even then it's not a rule we need to follow in lock step. Part of what we do in handloading is make ammo customed to our rifles, if we do it all by a formula we may as well use factory ammo.

Find an OAL that feeds and chambers relieabily in your rifle and develop your load normally.
