Not exactly hunting, but...

This morning I saw a dead deer on the highway perhaps a half-mile from home. It wasn't there last night and it probably met its end in the early morning. Around here (Northern Virginia) we see a lot of deer and many end up dead on the highways. But that isn't news.

According to a short article in the October issue of National Geographic, which I read in waiting rooms, there is a large wild boar population in Berlin, Germany. It was accompanied by a boar trotting across a street being followed by three or four little piglets. The artticle said that some people even feed them, even though that isn't legal. They have become a minor problem, with accidents happening when they get in the way of cars. It also said that although they haven't bothered people, some dogs have learned new respect for wild pigs.

So, it seems Europe is wilder than we Americans might think it is. There are even wild bison in Europe, not many, but there aren't theat many here anymore. Maybe the whole world is wilder than we think!
