No Lee Collet Available... Which Neck Die?

So, I suddenly find myself owning a Savage 11 chambered in 270WSM.

Sadly, I find that Lee does not make a collet die for this cartridge... looks like my choices are mainly Forster, Redding or RCBS....

Which one and why?

If your goal is to neck size only and you wish to keep working of the brass to a minimum, I would recommend a forester or redding bushing die.

I have a forester for my 270 win. Its a little tricky finding the right bushing, but once you do it's nice. I just dip the brass in imperial graphite media and go to town. Sure beats lubing the whole case.

I have shot a particular lot of brass 8 times and haven't had to trim the cases yet. I have found that this particular die is very easy on brass.

Lee will make a custom for you, I copied this from their website.

Collet Necksizing Die Set

A Custom Collet Die Set consists of the Collet sizer and the Dead Length Bullet Seater, a shell holder and dipper. Maximum outer diameter at the base is .555 and the maximum bullet diameter is .375. There are a few exceptions for the larger Ultra Mags and if interested in those, you may want to give us a call or send a case to determine whether or not we can make them. Order your custom collet necksizing die set here.

We need:

Payment of $60.25 ($55.00 + $5.25 processing fee)
2 fired cases from the rifle that the ammunition is to be reloaded for
2 sample bullets

Yeah, I saw that.... considering it but that's pretty steep for one collet die.

Seem's to be wash if you really like lee's and you get your accuracy you want some of the forrester dies are way over that price.

Yup, but if the Lee is something your looking for then it's a fair price for the collet die if you want to go that way no doubt you will get what you want to do the job, GOOD LUCK in you search.

Pete that price is for the collet die, the seater, and the shell holder. Besided for a custom job that is well below bargian basement price on a custom non production die set. I am sure if you contact them they will give a price icluding a FL die as well.

I suppose so, just makes me twitchy to pay $60 for something that I've bought for $30 multiple times.:D

And it's 2-6 months lead time.:eek::(

if you have much reloading experince you can use any full length sizing die..why waste ur cash on more trash to clutter ur bench...i neck size my 22-250 with my lee dies...works great and a lot cheaper....

Yes, he's right. You can adjust your regular dies to only size the top 1/8 inch or so. Naturally this is only for brass that has been fireformed in the rifle you are loading for.
