Ordered all the parts and a barrel from BHW 20" standard profile. Got a good deal on PSA upper and completed Lower that are blemished. Blemishes are so minor you don't notice them. Young Manufacturing finally got their 7.62x39 bolts back in stock. I ordered a WMD Nickel Boron Bolt carrier along with the cam pin and firing pin. A KNS firing pin Perma Key. A Matrix Arms rifle length forearm becuase it has a nice slim profile and it lightweight. I ordered a BCM Gunfighter charging Handle and an ejector port cover with hardware. I am waiting on a slim profile adj gas port, rifle length and fwd assist parts from BTE. I think the next project will be the 243 LBC.

I built a 264 lbc years ago with a BHW barrel--shot very well, but it took a while to find the best cartridge combo, experiencing the same thing now with a grendel wildcat.

I would be very careful on bolt choice

I wouldnt get a 7.62x39 bolt for a 6.5g....... Yeah, it will work, but to me its risky

There are some improved bolts for the 6.5g due to the breakage issue people were having a few years back

BTW--I think the hornady engineer that worked with BA on the original grendel designed it to optimize around the 123 or 129 sst (can't remember exactly which it was)--no coincidence I think that it's one of the better factory ammo cartridges for the grendel.

I think that it was optimized for 123. People who buy Hornady 123gr Amax or SST seem to be generally happy.

Which is why I bought the bolt from Young Manufacturing....."New patent pending 7.62 x 39 and 458 Socom “Heavy Wall” bolt design. No more broken lugs. We don’t just machine out the bolt face on a standard 5.56mm bolt leaving a thin wall and weak lugs. We machine it right from the start and you use your STANDARD AR15 firing pin. The wall thickness on our bolt is .020” thicker than the competition giving more support to the lugs. As with all of our bolts we finish grind all critical diameters “After” heat treat resulting in a bolt that is true and square to the bolt face for 100% lug contact. Available in 7.62 x 39 and .458 SOCOM. Other calibers coming soon. Made from 9310 steel and heat treated to mil spec." BHW barrels only make barrels for type 1 which requires the 7.62x39 bolt.

I didn't think that the 7.62x39 bolt worked for the 6.5mm?

And I can say my Grendel really likes the 123gr SST. The Hornady factory ammo is great, still trying to find a reload that will match it. Best powder I've found thus far is IMR8208 but it's still not shooting as well as the factory stuff... first rifle I've ever had where the factory rounds shot better than my reloads

The 6.5 Grendel has the same case head size as the .220 Russian, 7.62x39 and the 6.5mm PC. BHW does't make a barrel for Type 2 Grendel anymore
