New Upper for OLY

Was thinking about getting a new upper for my Olympic Arms flattop 16" chambered in 556. Are their any limitations on what type of upper I can put on it? commercial or mill spec? Thinking of going to a longer barrel or different cal. and want to build a separate upper for it.

I have an old Colt AR with bigger dia pins that does not work well with others.
I THINK that is the only exception to uppers fitting.

You can assemble an upper with an armorers tool and a bench vise.

Not sure you'd save much over a cheap upper, unless you wanted premium parts. You can spend as much as you want on tools, or as little.

Easiest to buy a complete upper though.
