I picked up this S&W 1911 on a trade a few days ago. Not my first S&W 1911, I bought a 1911Sc when they first came out and still own it, and love it. I traded a bit high on this but I still think it was the right decision. Traded an old Citori Trap (I don't like trap, when I shoot clays I shoot skeet, had the gun for a long time and never shot it) and an M&P .45 (Also own an M&P 9 and just inherited an XDM 45, so I am set on plastic guns, and the M&P 45 just never saw any use). Called Smith to check on the manufacture date, it was early 2004. Hitting the range this coming weekend, range reports will follow.

Two years ago, when one of my Son-in law's wanted to get into shooting, and a .45 - we attended a large Mass gunshow, where I advised him to jump on a NOS S&W 1911 @ $800.

Since then, he's been shooting the snot out of it (he & my daughter belong to a local Mass gun club) with zero issues, and loves it to death.

It sure doesn't hurt that they're styled attractively, to boot.

Great guns

My S&W 1911, (post billboard) shoots great and has never had a stoppage. I also own the M&P and that too is a great gun. Don't be dismayed by polymer. The M&P is my primary home defense gun. I like it for that purpose as it holds a few additional rounds and, if necessary, the tapered double stack magazine is more easily loaded into the magazine well than a 1911 magazine unless you have one of those funnels installed on the 1911.
