New LC9 question

Over the weekend we picked up a Ruger LC9 for my wife to carry. I am super excited because she was not interested in carrying for a while. Well now we have it and Ruger says it is 7+1 and the mag has 1-7 right on it, but I can't get the seventh round in the magazine. I have tried to cram it in there and have changed the floor plates but no go. It really doesn't look like there is enough room for seven rounds. I have left it loaded with the six I can get in and left the mag in it for a couple days. But, still no dice.

Anyone else heard of this? Any ideas?

Don't know if this is what you should do but: Chamber a round, eject the magazine and put one more round in the mag and insert.

Just in follow up... I figured out what I was doing wrong. After switching the baseplates on the mag I did not have the spring in the correct place. Corrected this and now it holds seven rounds no problem.
