Will break-free do a decent job of cleaning/lube of a new pistol or should I use a stronger solvent and different lube??

I always wiped my new handguns with Hoppe's 9 first and then used BF CLP / oil. I suspect if you don't remove the grease first entirely the CLP will not be affective.

Break-free will be fine. Clean the gun, and have lots of fun shooting it.

Don't forget to bring the peanut butter and Smucker's grape jam preserves for breaking-in the barrel. ;)

Seriously though, let us know how your new gun shoots!

zbordas recommends exactly what I would do and have done....clean the cosmoline and other junk out of it and then oil it with Break Free CLP.
