I am thinking of adding a new addition. Just completed a 10 year goal and quite frankly I think I deserve one. Looking at staying under $1000

Choices:

Sig P229 Scorpion
Sig P226 Scorpion
Springfield Range Officer
CZ75 Variant

I own 1 Sig, a P220. I own two CZ clones, a Baby Eagle and a Tristar C100. I own zero 1911's.

This will be for range fun and HD. I primarily have 9mm's although I wouldn't be opposed to one of the Sigs in 40 to switch around barrels.

GO!

I fondled a Sig P229 recently and it's been on my mind an awful lot! I dunno what it is but I like the Scorpion look a lot!

1911 hands down. You have representations of all your other options and you said you don't have a 1911 yet. The range officer you mentioned is a great example of a quality 1911 for the price.

I voted CZ just for the heck of it. I don't have one (yet), but feel like it would be a robust choice like the 1911 with a little Euro class...

I say the Springfield 1911 because you don't own a 1911 yet. If this is a treat for yourself might as well shake things up a bit. I love my Springfield loaded.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Two 1911's. one in .45 and one in .22
I was going to get a 22 conversion slide for a 1911, when I realized I could get another sig 1911-22 for around the same price and not have to change slides.

The Sig 229 in .40

As an owner of one of the better .40s on the market (Beretta PX4), I feel comfortable saying the Sig 229 is the best .40 made.

Definitely a 1911 for passing a milestone :D

Save just a few more bucks and take a hard look at the Dan Wesson Valor.

Interesting results so far. Didn't think the CZ would fare so well. Got me thinking.....I could get a 75 and a AR lower (another short list item) and still be way cheaper than my 1000 limit.....but then again, it would be nice to have one really nice gun instead of two cheaper ones....

Heck, I could get an STI Spartan and a lower and be cheaper than the R.O.

Are any of the Colt models under 1000 worth it? Don't own a Colt yet at all.

Colt makes a series 80 government model #01991 which you should find for around $900 +/-. I have one and it is a fantastic gun. Also there is a series 70 model for about $100 more. The Colt Defender/New Agent are Officer sized models in the same price range.

(Note: The Series 80 pistols have a firing pin safety, the Series 70 does not. Which one is better is a debate that hasn't ended in 30 years and will probably never end!)

1911.

I find anyone who has not actually put some time into a 1911A1 lacking. Love it or hate it, you should at least know it.
Consider it a right of passage. :D

Lacking what? The opportunity to purchase a $1000 gun?

I had been holding off on buying one because I have been told that I will be getting my wife's grandfathers military issued 1911.
