I recently purchased an Ithaca 1911 and am looking for any information regarding it's history.

Left side slide says "Ithaca..." and frame is stamped C.A.I. Georgia VT.
there is a "ja" stamp by the trigger guard and a "4".
The top of the slide is marked "F" or "P", can't quite make it out.
Right side says the usuall M1911 US Property and such, under which is "No 2172XXX" and "BA4 10 66 P" and "7".

Any help is appreciated.

1. The serial number falls in the range for Remington Rand in 1945. Such "mixmasters" produced during armory overhauls are not unusual.

2. "CAI, Georgia, VT" is the importer. The gun was overseas and reimported by Century Arms International at some time before that practice was banned.

3. "ja" is what is left of the chief inspector's stamp, F.J.A., Frank J. Atwood.

4. "4" is probably the assembler's mark.

5. "P" is the proof mark from when the gun was built and tested.

6. "BA4 10 66 P" and "7" beats me, might be the unit or agency abroad that used the gun after the US Army was through with it and before it was surplused to CAI.

So is it most likely a remington rand frame that was finished by ithaca with an ithaca slide?

Thank you for your help.
