Need a new day pack for hiking/woodsbumming...(yes it's gun related)

Did the Boone Fork trail yesterday with my old backpack I used when I was in school up here (App. State). It has seen it's better days and is really not ideal for what I was using it for.

I don't need something large. I really don't like backpacks but prefer sling packs. Had one years ago that I used up here a good bit but it was kinda cheap and eventually failed beyond my ability to patch it back together. Looking for a replacement for it but of quality.

Two models I've looked at online from Maxpedition.

Remora
Versipack

Pros/Cons please and suggest other models/manufacturers if you like.

My requirements are that it is:

1) A sling pack, not a traditional 2 strap backpack
2) Big enough for the basic day trail needs and some emergency kit for surviving a few nights if things go wrong. The basics here, I ain't packing a tent and I can improvise shelter.
3) Less than $100.00
4) The ability to easily attach/pack a 4" GP100 (see told ya it was gun related ). Seriously though, this is an important consideration.

Hmmmm the fact that you specifically want a sling pack makes it rough. Right now, quick search I can tell you to cross off the following manufacturers:

Mountain Hardware, Arc'teryx, Gregory, Marmot, and Mystery Ranch.

Off-hand by your requirements for size, I'd say look for something that'll hold 2,500+ cu inches

If you change your mind about sling vs traditional then I recommend a Camelbak M.U.L.E., you can find the mil-spec version on ebay now and then. Rugged and handy.

Edit: You might also consider the H.A.W.G.

not about the back pack but ur choice of gun. have u seen the kel tec sub 2000? it folds into to 16'' and can be had in 9mm and .40 caliber it is the perfect back packing gun. im buying one soon for camping.

check out some of hunting packs , they are like very large hipsacks
with straps .so the pack rides on hips and lower back ,and your
upper back and shoulders are free to move,and not get all sweaty.

I've seen them, and while they are a "neat" concept, I'd hate to have to deploy one quickly to save my bacon from either a 2 legged or 4 legged predator.

Also when you consider that the ballistics of either the 9mm or .40 version in carbine format about duplicate the .357 ballistics from a handgun..........well..........I'll take the .357.

My camp gun is an 870, my hiking gun is a GP100. It's what works for me.....

Have several versions of these already, none really do very well with long term carry for me. I don't like fanny/waist packs because I don't have enough rear end to hold them up. They tend to shimmy down as I'm walking and I'm always pulling them up. The ones with shoulder straps (that I have) don't work much better.

I like my Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack. Just about right for a day hike and you can holster your pistol in it. You can stabilize the pack by attaching it to your belt with it's built in velcro belt loop.

+1 on the Jumbo Versipak. It'll hold your GP100 in the gun stash and has the ability to "grow", should you need to add extra storage/contraptions. I've had mine for a year and a half and am very pleased with it. Maxpedition products are heavily built. The sling allows you to slide it to your back whenever the need arises. It is padded to minimize rubbing on your hip.

I'm just about sold on the Jumbo Versipack and will likely be ordering soon (a week or so). Anyone else want to chime in with another option before I "pull the trigger"?
