My Yugo SKS doesn't cycle

So last Friday I finally got out to the range with my Yugo SKS. I've actually had it for months, but just never go the cosmoline cleaned off until recently.

First off I loaded in a single round (heard stories about slam fires, uncontrollable full auto, etc.) and sent it down range. Gun worked perfectly, and the casing went flying.

Fired several more singles, but the gun didn't seem to be ejecting. Everything else seemed fine, so I loaded in a full stripper clip and commenced to find out that I had a very cool looking bolt action rifle. No ejection/no automatic reload.

Made sure the "grenade launacher" button was properly situated -- and it was (in down position -- up position made no difference).

Upon further examination I discovered the bolt was coming partway back and then slamming back forward.

I pulled the gas tube and checked the hole into the barrel. No problems there -- clear and ready to go. Everything seemed to be moving easiy, including the road that goes back to the bolt.

HELP! Any ideas what problems I may be looking at here? Funny how it worked the first time.

Another helpful shooter suggested that I hadn't gotten the chamber cleaned out well enough and the casings were jamming in. It was a little difficult to pull the bolt back and extract, but no big deal.

The ammo I was using, BTW, was factory wolf FMJ.

Sounds just like what happens with a lot of Yugos, a leaking gas valve....
Even a little corrosion around the ring the tube seals onto will cause a gas leak, and produce the symptoms you're describing...

You can test it by wrapping some masking tape around where the gas tube and the fitting meet, if that's it you'll see it right away...

I have bought two brand new stainless gas valves for two different Yugos from these guys;

I have had nothing but great results and complete satisfaction from dealing with these guys, and you can't beat the price.

DO make sure the entire rifle is cosmo-free, also. A gummed up chamber will cause similar problems. But being that it's a Yugo, you should just go ahead and spend the $12.00 for the new valve. While you're at it spend another $9.00 for a new set of Wolff springs;
