IR scope. The resolution is phenomenal. You can take stills, video, and record sound though it. More options than a new car.

in many states pest control is not hunting.
In many states, pursuing animals with the intent of harvesting them is "hunting". After all, you need a "hunting license" to do so. Agreed, varmint hunting isn't always "hunting", more often it's "shooting". But if you've ever gone after coyotes, you'll probably agree it's hunting.

Agreed, but common sense and law are mutually exclusive

You will need to check your local laws. Predator/pest control may not be "hunting" under the game laws. Or it might be. OR it might be "in between" where you are required to have a (small game) hunting license, but no other restrictions apply. Any variation is possible, and you need to be sure what applies, where you are.

No matter what the law is, you'll need a valid, legal answer for that sheriff's deputy when they come calling because someone reported someone "shooting at night".

IF legal where you are, seems to me your night rig would also be a fine candidate for a suppressor...

Lots of guys are shooting hogs at night with IR rigs...so its not automatically illegal. Check the regs and have fun!!!

Montana considers coyote vermin. You can shoot on sight day or night, except within city limits, of which there are few. Some counties have bounties on them.

That is the catch, the local state regulations, which for Tennessee do not seem to be including legal hunting hours between 30 minutes after sundown and 30 minutes before sunrise with night vision or thermal optics.

Most states encourage hog elimination.

Most states do, but definitely NOT all states. Some states have imposed laws against shooting hogs on public lands, such as Missouri. Louisiana apparently doesn't allow hog hunting (or night hog hunting?) during deer season (not sure of the specs, but my buddy who lives there complains about this). Until just recently, hunting hogs at night required local game warden permission, which was not always granted and was property specific. Many or most states do not allow night hunting on public lands. Some states do require licenses for dealing with pests and some don't. One state makes you get hog tags if you want to shoot hogs. In other words, while states may encourage hog elimination, the legalities of compliance can vary widely from state to state.
