My Czech mail order bride showed up today! ++ RANGE REPORT ADDED++

After waiting two weeks for my new mail order bride to get here, I was able to pick her up this afternoon. She's a CZ SP-01 Phantom.

The SP-01 Phantom is the polymer framed version of the classic CZ75, in SA/DA with a decocker. It was recently chosen as the new side arm for all Czech Armed Forces and National Police Forces.

She has a 4.7" barrel and and a capacity of 18+1 9mm rounds. I think I'm going to prefer the smaller backstrap, but won't be sure until I have a chance to take her to the range for a workout on Thursday or Friday. I'll post a range report as I soon as I have to shoot her.

The SA pull is light and crisp, but the DA is just a tad gritty. I have bene told that they smooth out very nicely after being used.

Funny, two Phantom threads in one day. Rarely see them.

I agree with your backstrap statement. I changed mine out to the smaller one as well. Feels much better in my hand. Have you changed yours yet? Just be careful of that lanyard loop. It is under pressure and when you remove the pin, if you don't hold it down, it will go flying. I almost lost mine that way.

I shoot mine in the SSP division in IDPA and really enjoy it. Replaced the front sight with a green FO HiViz sight which works extremely well for me.

I did a trigger job on my brothers Phantom and it was improved dramatically. There are detailed instructions on the CZ forum on how to do it yourself.

Way cool.
Now you got me spending more money!!! I have some surplus CZs. A 50, 52, and 82, but that 75 is sweet!!! Even though I just busted my piggy bank for my first Glock, I now have another goal. A CZ like yours. When I go bankrupt it will all be your fault, along with so many others on TheFiringLine!!!

Instructions for a trigger job on a Phantom? Would you happen to have a link? I will go look on the forum but I have never seen it there before. Is it difficult?

Edit...Nevermind...found the post by PTGT_Neon. Thanks for the heads up..

I shot my first CZ last week and I am IMPRESSED.

The one I shot was NOT the Phantom but I think it was the SP-01.

Anyway, it is next on my list.

Congrats on the nice Phantom, I'm sure you will enjoy the heck out of it.

I own several CZ pistols and have done a LOT of work on my own and others so I wanted to highlight a few things to help you enjoy your gun, and also to help you stay out of trouble with it :D

Xfire68 gave you an excellent link for disassembly (http://www.czforumsite.info/index.php?topic=33120.0) HOWEVER, VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember if you are going to disassemble the trigger assembly is that you should do it inside a gallon freezer bag (or one of those large, clear, shopping bags) because a couple of those springs are very VERY small and REALLY like to go "sproing" off into low orbit.

If you do not want to disassemble the whole thing, but want to try and smooth the trigger a bit, you can put some crest toothpaste (it's mildly abrasive) into the sear area with a q-tip and then cock and dry fire it about 100 times (I recommend using a snap cap). Clean the toothpaste out with hot water and re-lube your gun and see how it feels.

I have also found that if you are out doing a long shooting session and the trigger starts feeling gritty, most times you can clean it right up by unloading the gun, holding the hammer back, pulling and holding the trigger (to raise the sear), and swiping the now exposed sear faces with a q-tip saturated with gun oil.

A great purchase! I have CZ 75B SA that I bought earlier this summer and I just love the gun. It's so simple that it's elegant, it shoots like a dream, it disassembles almost instantly, and it's among the most accurate and reliable handguns that I own.

I did put on the small backstrap, I think it feels a little better, but wont be sure until I get it to the range.

As much I would love to do a trigger job on it, I"m better at taking things apart than I am at putting them back together. I'll wait and have a gunsmith friend do it next time I see him.

I'll post a range report after I have a chance to shoot it.
