Ive got one of the MkIIIs with the threaded barrel. Bought the gun with the iron sights but now i want to put a fastfire red dot that i have laying around on it.

I know ruger sells the pistol with a pict rail already on it

Does anybody have exp in adding a rail to this gun? Rail options. Best one?

I dont want to just shop blind on midway. Im looking for experienced opinions.

Thank guys

Quite a few choices here !!!

I guess I have been under the impression that all MK-III's came drilled and tapped for a weaver style base. Some even include the base. No matter as bases for the MK-I & II, will fit the MK-III. I have used the Burris, Weavers and B-Square's and I'm sure there are more out there. To date, the Burris is probably my favorite. .... ;)

That's exactly where you will find them and I'm sure there are other places that carry them. ... :)

Be Safe !!!

Found one!!!

I found a mount that allows me to keep the iron sights in place. I doubt they would co-witness thru the red dot but at least i dont have to pound them out of the gun to install the optic

Big problem--- use bigger hammer

Nope. The one i ordered is by StormWorkz. Its a 3 screw design and fits in front of the standard rear sight

I dont expect to be able to use the irons with the red dot on but it eliminates the need to pound the rear sight out of its dovetail. Hence the "bigger hammer" comment

The 4 hole weaver ones just looked cheesy

Got it!!!

The Stormwerkz scope mount came in today. Its AWESOME.

Mounts solid. All the holes line up perfectly. There is even a channel down the center so you can use the irons if the scope is removed

If anybody is on the fence about putting a dot or any optic on your 22/45... Do it with one of these rail mounts

Now all i gotta wait for is Uncle Sam to say its ok to have that little tube on the end to make it quiet

I installed the rail on my MK-III 22/45 Lite and have an inexpensive BARSKA red-dot sight. I only use the red dot occasionally since my ready-holster doesn't accommodate it. The problem came when I installed firesights instead of the factory sights. The tail of the front sight extended back 1/8 inch past the front of the rail. I had to either cut the tail off the front sight, or cut the front off the rail. I chose the rail since I mount the red-dot toward the rear of the rail. A little black paint on the cut front of the rail and I am in business

By the way, I _REALLY_ like the firesights. My accuracy has greatly improved.
