Mossberg S26C question

A friend just purchased online a Mossberg S26c. I can find very little imformation about this rifle. According to the seller this gun was built by Mossberg for the Speigals catalog company around 1939. Since Mossberg also produced a model 26c, I am assuming the S26c is simply a model 26c with the S in the model number signifying the Speigal connection. Am I correct. If so what imformation can the members forward about the models? Years of production ect. Or is there a significant difference in between the model S26c and the model 26c? Thanks in adavance for any imformation.

That sounds about right. It is a Mossberg .22lr right?
