Mossberg 100 ATR 308 Winchester

Just bought this rifle from Academy Sports in the camo stock for 287.00 it is in 308 caliber, they had it in 243 as well, also 270 and 30-06, mounted me a new simmons 4x12x40 scope on it, can't wait to shoot it, anyone have one of these, does it shoot well.??

don't expect sub moa, but they are good cheap guns to beat around with and not worry about dinging the stock or scratching the bluing up. I personally like the stevens for the sub $300 range, but the mossy is good as well. Some of the barrels are real picky with bullet and powder combos. Friend has one in .308 as well and it took him 12 or so loads workups to get the right match. Now his gun will shoot around the MOA mark at 100yds.

A nice evolution of the Howa 1500 Remington 700, and Savage 110. The bolt and trigger groups are clearly from the Howa, while the receiver is similar to the Remington 700 and the barrel is Savage in design. Quite a mix.

I have the long-action in .270. IMO, the stock and trigger are better than the Stevens. Mine shoots a tad over 1moa with Fusion ammo and the Vari-X III 3.5-10 Leupy that I have on it, and slightly better than moa with handloads.

It is one heckuva rifle if you want a hunting rifle that you don't want to baby in the field. I don't cringe when I am dragging mine up to my climbing tree stand behind me, or when I am trudging through a thicket. The trigger is crisp and reasonably light. The bolt-throw is smooth. It is more than accurate enough for hunting out to 3-400 yards. And, it comes with bases already installed.

Gonna take my 308 ATR out in the morning and shoot it for the 1st time, i have a box of remington 150 grain core loks i had in my ammo chest so will let everyone know soon as i get back how well it fared

Try a couple of different brands/weights of ammo. Especially the 165/168 grain rounds.

i will try a few different loads as i go along, i usually use the remington core locs and the winchester power points in the 150 grain, but am gonna try some fusion and some winchester supreme and see how that works

well i managed to get out today and shoot my new mossberg 100 atr in 308 winchester, after sighting in using 150 grain winchester power points i was able to put them in a bullseye holes touching, now i was limited to shooting distance as well and was shooting at 50 yards but the gun does put them in there nicely, more accurate than i am i think. 4 of the holes were touching each other, 1 was half inch off the other 4, plus i didnt have a good steady rest, just benching off my truck hood using a pillow, very satisfied with the accuracy at 50 yards, all my deer kills except the one this year were under 75 yards

Thats how I sighted my '06 in over 25 years ago only at 100 yards, with some hunting loads I had made up. Its worked good a long time, I may have made a correction of a half MOA off a bench since I don't recall for sure. Basically I am shooting the same loads today. I do know that 1 1/2 inch at 100 yards is good enough for big game hunting if you do your part.

it is a nice rifle, well worth the 287.00 i paid for it, if any one is on a budget considering a high power rifle the 100 ATR is worth it

I have a 100ATR in .270 with synthetic stock, using Federal 130gr Nosler Ballistic Tips I am getting consitant groups of less than 1". It took about 5 or 6 boxes of ammo to find the ones it liked. The worst ammo I found for mine was the Remington 150 gr Core-Lokt, they wouldn't hold a decent group at any distance, to make it worse, I was using these to sight in the new scope....

Great gun for the money!!!

The only thing I would change would be to get a .308 in Wanut.

Just bought the scope combo in 308 with wooden walnut stock. Bore sighted it and it was right on the money right out of the box. Using a bench rest and Winchester Supreme 150gr. @100 yds,I was able to get all 4 shots in the bullseye. The farthest space between them slightly over 1 inch (1 1/8"? ) Used a Coyote target next and put all 4 shots in the head neck area. After getting serious, I got the shoulder/ribcage consistently. 1 box of ammo and I'm hooked on this gun. Only paid $359.00. In the immortal words of Darth Vader...
