Mold modification

I have a mold that is for gas checked bullets. I have found that there is no difference in accuracy between the bullet out of this mold and another mold's bullets I have with no gas checks. I get no leading with either bullet.

I like the bullets from the mold with the gas checks. It is a NOE 360160 SWC. Is there a shop that will mill the cavities to remove the gas check shank?

There's a fellah by the handle of Buckshot on the Castboolitforum that can open it up for you for a small fee. I'd check over there.

Be advised , Buckshot may not work on aluminum molds , I think .

Question , do you want the shank opened to 360 or remove the sprue plate & mill the surface down to the driving band ???

When I was casting pistol bullets, I also experienced no leading with non gas checked bullets. My .357 and my .44 magnum Lyman molds were cut for gas checks. I the gas check cut acted like another lub ring. I shot many thousands of bullets so lubed. Before you spend the money give it a try.

As reported above, give them a try before removing the GC on the mold. You might be surprised. There are plenty of folks on CB's shooting them as such with great results.

Thing is you still have the GC option if they shoot, but once it's gone it's gone.
