Minnesota Semi Auto Rifle Laws

I was traveling through Minnesota and stopped at the Cabelas in Owatonna. Looking at the racks of used long guns, I noticed all the ARs, AKs, and other semi auto rifles had an additional red tag that said, "Permit to Purchase Required." I have bought long guns when out of state, but this condition makes that impossible. Is this a Minnesota law or just a policy of Cabelas?

You need a permit to purchase a handgun or an assault weapon...

Yep! Welcome to MN...

Need a permit to purchase or a carry permit (win!) to buy a semi-auto rifle or handgun. Not needed for most rifles nor shotguns.

You can buy a Ruger Mini-14 or a Remington 742/7400/750 or a Browning BAR MKII without a Carry permit or a Permit to purchase.

Thanks for the answers and research gentlemen. I feel so much better knowing that the next mass shooter in Minnesota is limited to a semiauto 12 gauge with a 9 shot mag tube.
