How long should the be engaged before getting married?:D:rolleyes:

I kid!

Seriously though, this may be a question without even a vaguely generalizable answer but, if so...

What is consider a safe sear to firing pin engagement?

I don't have a real good answer for you.I have read the number to hit with a 1911 is .018 in.
I assume you are talking about striker fired handguns.Maybe.

That may be different between a Glock and a S+W M+P,for example.

And no,I don't know the answer for either.

If it is an SD pistol,I suggest the recent thread in General Handgun "Carry Guns and Modification". Quite discouraging about making changes...but good info for making choices.

Not a SD gun just a range toy. If I could find a source for the firing pins I would just buy a few and experiment. No one seems to have them though.

Assuming your end goal is a better trigger, check Apex. (I don't know what gun you have)

I think two things they do: Hard,machined,non-MIM parts that polish better.

And changes in the camming geometry(mechanical advantage that disengages the striker sear.

I have not noticed where they change the striker/sear engagement.

What pistol?

Glock says at least 1/2 of the sear should catch the striker tail. Thats what the Orange covet plates are for. So you can see inside.
