Mauser 98 Action Question

I recently picked up a couple of Mauser rifles one being a Parker-Hale .308" in excellent condition. My question is based more on being a novice in Mausers (I've only had remington or Sako actions before this). I seem to have problems chambering round following round, following round. The first goes in OK, but the next ones act like their OAL is too long (factory Remington fodder. It doesn't matter if I fire the cartridge or not, it acts the same both way. Any help would be appreciated. wolfz

This may or may not be relevant--but depending on exactly what your Mauser action came from, some do present an OAL problem with some bullets feeding from an unaltered magazine. I built up an '06 for my son on a 1909 Argentine, and the OAL is critical. Essentially it is restricted to 165 gr. bullets unless I deep seat longer bullets. The Kuhnhausen book on Mausers has some info on this. More I cannot say.

Hi, wolfz,

I am not sure if you are saying that the rounds will not feed up from the magazine or feed up but will not chamber fully.

Overall length may or may not be a factor in either case, but not necessarily the only possibility.
