Marlin 336 peep sight installation

Hello all. I recently bought a Williams peep sight for my Marlin 336. Of course, I would prefer the original rear sight not be in my line of sight.

What exactly is the proper method of removing the rear sight? Is this something I lift or push or pull the right way or should I take it to my smith that is on a 7 week wait.

And should I plan on a blue touch-up with this surgery?

Thanks in advance.

cratz2, lift the sight and remove the stepped elevator. Then drive the sight out of it's dovetail with a brass or nylon drift punch. Marbles sells a dovetail slot filler if you don't want the open dovetail look. George
