A 33 year old man who was a high school and college football star, even playing for the Packers is dead. How did he die?

After leaving the NFL, he fathered six children and, according to Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Paco Balderrama, was arrested 13 times since 1990. He joined a street gang, the Northside Island 456 Piru Bloods.

On january 27, he committed a home invasion, and was shot and killed by a 17 year old boy in the home, after Dean broke into an apartment, assaulted a woman and demanded money and jewelry.

How does this relate to my daughter's school? This case is the subject of her homework assignment:

1 Explain why it is never OK to hurt other people.
2 Respond to the following statement: "Sure Mandrell Dean is partly to blame for his own death. But so is society. We failed this potentially great football player by not letting him play college ball at a top tiered school."
3 Since society is in part to blame for Dean's death, what should we do that make sure that someone else does not suffer the same fate as Dean? Explain.

Can you believe that?
