M1A Recievers

I am hearing alot about different M1A recievers. Forgive me of my ignorance on the subject, but that is why I ask the experts.
As I understand it Springfield has Cast recievers (Is that correct?). While other companies in the past or presently manufacture recievers using a forging process ie: Armscorp, Smith etc.
I understand that even Polytech uses forged recievers!
Why is it that forged recievers are so much better than the cast type? Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, only Polytech/Norinco forges their receiver. Springfield, Armscorp and now Smith casts theirs (Smith forged some earlier, but has presently discontinued production of both types. Per Ron, they are contemplating making more - probably casted).
