M&P mag dropping out

I have a buddy with a M&P .40 compact.
I guess he's having problems with the magazine dropping out when the gun is fired. Out of three mags, it happens to him consistently with two; the third doesn't do it (for him).
He has said he doesn't think he's pushing on the mag release while shooting.
He went to the range last weekend with another guy and all three mags would do this to the other guy.
He's thinking of sending it back to S&W for them to check out.
I could swear I've seen this issue on this forum before but have not had any luck in searching (I guess the search function can't use "&" so I have trouble searching for "M&P magazine").

Anyone else have this problem or any thoughts as to what is causing it and how to fix it?

Some of the earlier M&Ps had a problem with the mag catch partially dropping mags. Your friend should call S&W customer service who may just send the part.

It is also possible his thumb hit the mag release. This has happened to some of those with bigger hands. If this is the case, he'll need to either change his grip or grind/dremel the mag release button down a bit.
