My son asked for my help in finding out about an M-1 he has. Now, I'm really a pistol sorta guy, so I hope someone can point me towards the 2 or 3 "best" online sites to do a little research on his rifle. TIA

Prodigalshooter,

Two places come to mind immediately:

www.jouster.com is where all the Garand Gurus hang out. Check out the M1-M14 Collectors Forum as well as the "Lane's Tips" button at the top of the main page.

www.battlerifles.com is another good board with lots of friendly Garand types.

Garands forever.....

Best regards,
Swampy

Prodigalshoote,
I have two sites on the net that deal with the history of the M1 Garand. They are the Ordnance files about the M1 Garand. Here's one site address:
http://www.garandm1rifle.com
These sites are linked and each site has different data files on them.
I hope this data helps.
Thanks again

Oh boyt I get to brag!

You will probably really love the site that I put together.

Originally it started out as a site to show off the M1's we got from the Civilian Marksmanship program

And as time passed it became a site which included a ton of photogrphs, descriptions, and hints. There were full sections complete with step by step picturs of how to detail strip and re-assemble an M1 garand... there ws a section on accessories, and there ws as noted the section on part names (nomenclature).

The CMP obtained the meat of the site within the last year and those four sections can be found at http://www.civilianmarksmanship.com/ I am really proud they found my work good enough to have me convert it to their format. Now they have total ownership and responsibility for those sections.. however a lot of my original stuff still remains including a silly gun control humor section that you might like. There is also a section of links that will point you to all kinds of garand pages and there is a section on books that I suggest including those by Clancy, Duff, and others.

In any event drop by and have a look.
