Loose take down lever on TTN Coach Gun

My Dad has a collection of Cowboy Action guns from a late friend, include this TTN Coach Gun. I'm about 99% sure it's unfired. It locks up strong. However, the takedown lever on the forearm has about 1/2" of "flop" in it. After that it's firm and otherwise seems to work fine. I only noticed it after taking the gun apart to check the serial number, but I don't think it was loose like that until taking it apart and reassembling it. I followed the directions from the manual, so I know I did it "right." But I'm not a shotgun guy.

So, I'm figuring a trup to the smith is in order, but what might account for this?
