Id like to know how many of you like long range doggin 1000 yds plus or who can even fathom it since some members cant even think that far. Ive got a shot at 1880 yds on a prarie dog took 3 shots to do it and a little luck but I did it. several others at varios ranges up to 1880. Who else has some long shots.

You took a prairie rat at 1880?!

What gun and optics?

FWIW, longest dawg shot I've heard of was 538 with a match AR and a Leupold 3-9.

2 guns, first was a Rem stainless steel fluted sendero with bluprinted action, sako exctractor the action was aluminum bedded in the original bedding block system in the caliber of 7 mm STW with a Nikon 6-20.Next was my baby she was a fully tricked out custom job. A Rem 721 action that was fully bluprinted with a sako exctractor, H.S. Precision long rang tactical stock. A 28" H.S. Precision stainless steel fluted barrell that was 1 1/8" at the muzzle with a varmint style brake. Timney trigger and a 8-32 Burris all in 300 win mag.I go hunting in areas that there are prarie dog as far as you can see. I was using a 200 matchking in the 300 and a 150 nosler in the 7mm Stw I do admit that there is some luck involved but I'm getting better and better every time I go. I can take prairie dogs with my 6-284 at 900 yds all day thats my fav and it is second nature to me now.

Reminds me of "Quigley Down Under", where he says something like: "It's marked up to 1200 yards. This one shoots a bit further"

My longest shot is probably only about 200 yards. I'll see if I can get it farther. But, then I'm only using factory built rifles, no hopped-up custom jobs. My wife and kids like store-bought food and clothes - too civilized. ;)

The longest shot I ever did on a varmint was 765 yards. Remington Sendero 7mm Mag, with a Nosler 150 grain Ballistic Tip handload. Took 4 shots used a Leupold 6.5-20x40 scope. I know its not a 1000 yards or more but pretty long. I can not imangine myself shooting that far away yet without a lot more practice. The guys who can do that are pretty awesome shooters. Just my two cents worth.

Hey, REDMISTMD: What sort of ranging system are you using, to know the distance? Portable benchrest, etc.? All that sort of stuff...

Regards, Art

Laser rangefinder for the initial reading once any shots are made we use a digital wheel to run off the yardage. I do most of my shooting off the ground from a bipod I have a roto-bench I just dont like setting it up.

Longest shot on armadillo, 9 yds offhand, Ruger 10/22T CCI .22 mini-max HP. Had to hold 1" high - bullet not yet above bore axis at that range.

Indoor range; charging paper plate, muzzle blast blew fist sized hole in plate. Using muzzleblast signature for that round in that gun and size of hole it was determined that shot was fired at 5.037 inches. Penetration adequate but expansion of the projectile was essentially nil.

Sam....follow me, I know a shortcut.

If any of you guys are interested in long range rifle take a look at Lilja's Web site. Several bench rest records have been set with Lilja barrels and they are rightfully proud of that fact. Indeed, one of the guys I shoot with had a 1000 yard light rifle record for several years. The URL is http://www.riflebarrels.com/record.htm and it is worth a look.
