Longer AR stocks?

Hello,

I have a buddy who just bought his first AR, a Bushmaster Carbon-15. Trouble is, he is 6 foot 9, and needs a stock with a long length of pull. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Good Evening Mosin,

I’d like to weigh in, as I am 6’8”. I have had a couple ARs, and dealt with the stock length a couple different ways.

First thing I tried was putting the optic farther forward. That gets you by, but it’s not ideal.

I also took a standard A2 buffer tube to a machine shop and had them build up the back end, then add 2 additional locking points for the stock. This was the expensive, but more satisfactory option. You’re probably looking at >$100 for that easily. The downside to this is that you can’t collapse as far once it’s done.

I also imagine you could build up the stock any number of ways. Or, just drop $200+ on an adjustable target style stock.

It’s not easy being this tall! :p

Thx jonnyc, The A2 does look better, apparently a deliberately longer lop to assist bladed shooting position. Are there slip-on pads for it?

I'm average height (5-10), but have long arms.
I prefer a long LoP. (Often at least 14".)

Standard AR stocks irritate the crap out of me.
The best "cheap" option out there for people in my LoP range is the Magpul MOE rifle stock with the longest (3/4") extension installed.
It takes the LoP to between 14-1/8" and 14-1/4", depending upon what trigger is installed.
For reference, LoP for the following "standard" stocks is:
A1: 12.875"
A2: 13.5"
M4: 8.xx" to 13.xx" (up to 13.95" -- varies, depending upon contractor, stock supplier, and buffer tube specs).

Additional consideration(s):
Magpul ACS (and ACS-L): 15" maximum*
VLTOR IMOD: 14.75" maximum*
*Advertised figures; but long-armed buyers do find them helpful.

Bushmaster makes a 1" rubber pad that fits on the rear of the A2 stock... I have one on my shorty A2 stock, but it should do the same thing on the standard stock. The rifle on the bottom has the 1" extender...

How long does he need?
The Vltor A5 w/Emod apparently goes to 15.5". Magpul makes one that goes to 15".
Isn't easy being close to the ground but needing an XXL shirt either. Have a Chinese made work shirt that fits really nicely at the shoulder. Comes to my knees. I look like a cafeteria lady. Complete with beard and no teeth. snicker.

The Choate E2 is a bit longer than the A2. Add an extended buttpad and the LOP should be generous.

I'm only 6'2", but I used a Choate with an A2 buttplate for a while. It was nice for prone, but a bit long for standing.
